200mm-Micro Nikkor f/4

I took my new 200mm Nikon Micro lens out this morning for a test drive at the Zoo. This is a 200mm that will focus at a little less than a foot. The top image is at f/11 and the bottom at f/4. The lens is extremely sharp - even wide open - and a little smaller and lighter than I expected, but I guess I'm getting accustomed to the heavier glass. All in all I'm very happy with the performance, and this lens will get a lot of use shooting reptiles, amphibians, and insects.

A great, somewhat under appreciated, lens is now in very capable hands. I used two ancestors, the "Medical Nikkor" beast that had a built-in ring flash, and the first AI 200 Micro-Nikkor from 1977. They are so very sharp, even at f/32. The harsh bokeh made the older glass unsuitable for general purposes, but your f/4 shot looks pretty darn good. I'm sure you'll appreciate the increased working distance from bees :) As always, I can't wait to see more.
